Oscars 2009 - Best Picture Profanity Reels (1/5): Frost/Nixon
As sort of a run up to the Oscars I cut the entries for the Best Picture category into profanity/swear reels.
I’ll post 1 a day for the next 5 days (in no particular order). All edits contain spoilers.
First up: Frost/Nixon
Turns out it’s nice to watch films this way; forced to pay attention to every single word, marking the curses on the fly, then editing to make the final reel. At times I chose to leave some context around the swears, took some leeway on what really is a swear, and also tried to keep the flow somewhat smooth/interesting.
Why Frost/Nixon shouldn’t win the oscar.
It is a pretty good film, hell, all best picture nominees are pretty decent this year (I put them between a 7 & 8 on the IMDB scale). Unfortunately for Frost/Nixon the actual interview tapes will always be more interesting than the play & film based on them. Especially since the whole was rather well documented/exploited to begin with.
Conclusion: A great technical & decent historical drama (with some really outstanding performances), that doesn’t really add anything that hasn’t/couldn’t be done in documentaries & such.
