Profanity Reels (5/5): Milk

Milk:

P.S The use of “gay/homosexual” etc in Milk is (depending on who says it and when) sometimes not a swear/profanity. I left most of them in for effect/flow. No offense intended.
Why it shouldn’t win the Oscar for best picture.
Pah, maybe it should. The story is interesting enough and highlights an important struggle (that has been mostly avoided as box-office poison (which Milk was close to being too without their Oscar nominations). Well written, directed, shot, designed and with a very strong performance by Sean Penn, it could be enough to clinch it.
Also, because I’ve had something to bitch about the other nominees in this category, Milk seems like the default (leftover) choice.
That said, After watching it I wasn’t entirely impressed/overwhelmed/ready to hand out the Oscar. IMO there is no clear-cut favorite among the nominees, but instead having several really decent films for a change. Local politics will probably decide this one, but If I had the choice, I’d probably give Milk the nod.
